When a brokerage firm is closed due to bankruptcy and/or other financial difficulties or they have been found to be carrying out fraudulent activity – the AIPC will endeavor to recover the lost funds, within certain parameters, and attempt to return the customers' cash, stock, securities. Without the AIPC, investors at financially troubled or fraudulent brokerage firms might lose their securities or funds forever or wait for years while their assets are tied up in court.
